About Kate

Beginning her teaching career at seventeen, the art and practice of conveying knowledge was always a part of Kate. Through her first experience of teaching piano, Kate learned the invaluable skills of pacing for growth, compassion for the process of learning, and patience. While continuing her education in Psychology, Kate learned the fascinating inquiry into the mind. It is this fascination into the mind with a holistic approach that led her to Yoga. In practicing Yoga for the last sixteen years, Kate has come to love biomechanics, uncovering deeper states of self-awareness, and happiness. It is with this approach that Kate brings her unique voice to the Yoga community.

What People Are Saying

Several years ago I suddenly began to have severe back problems. It was then I thought perhaps Yoga would be a way to avoid surgery and keep my body flexible. I nervously joined a Shala and of all the instructors in the world I could have had, I was lucky enough to get Kate. I was put at ease by her calming voice, gentle personality and sense of humor. I bonded with her immediately and knew that I wanted her for my personal trainer for a few lessons. It was important that I have someone who was knowlegable in the field so that I would not injure myself further. And so I began my love affair with Yoga.
At the beginning of each practice Kate checks to see what problem areas or injuries we have so that she can design each class according to our needs for that particular day. Breathing is stressed as a fundamental element of our practice. She is good at demonstrating the poses and then offering options that we may need because of our limitations as well as use of props. And most important, she checks on each of us to be sure we are doing it properly. All this is done with great skill and patience. Her educational background and years of experience definitely are reflected in her abilities as an instructor. I feel so confident in her class knowing I will not be injuring myself and have seen great improvement in my mind and body.
Kate embodies the greatness and beauty of what it means to be a Yogi.

I have been a regular Yoga student of Kate’s for over three years, and I have been consistently impressed with her dedication, knowledge, and gentle compassion. Her style of working with people is very even, skillful and effective. Yoga has changed my life for the better and I have Kate to thank for that.

Although I have only been consistent in my inconsistency in most things I do, I have been taking classes regularly with Kate for the past four years. I initially kept going merely because my body felt better after taking her class but discovered that I also kept getting stronger and more flexible in an injury-free way. I’ve received help in private lessons for pre and post surgery stretches and also for a cross-country motorcycle trip. I highly recommend Kate’s classes, private lessons and/or workshops because like those old milk commercials said: It does a body good.
